About MEPCO

What is MEPCO and which areas does it serve?

MEPCO — Multan Electric Power Company — distributes electricity across 13 districts of South Punjab, roughly 141,000 square kilometres of territory. That makes it the largest service area of any electricity distributor in Pakistan by geography, and one of the largest by consumer count too, with well over 6.5 million connections. If your meter sits anywhere from Multan down to Rahim Yar Khan or Dera Ghazi Khan, MEPCO is who's billing you.

The company actually goes back to 1922, when it started life as the Multan Power Supply Company under British India. It was corporatized in 1998 and now operates under a NEPRA distribution licence. Billing and MIS (Management Information System) processing run on shared infrastructure managed by PITC — that's why some official-looking bill portals are branded PITC rather than MEPCO. It's the same system, not a different one.

Electricity meter installation for a new MEPCO connection
New connection

Applying for a New MEPCO Connection

New MEPCO connections go through the ENC (Electronic New Connection) portal, covering domestic, commercial, industrial, and agricultural categories — each with its own document list and fee schedule. South Punjab's economy runs heavily on irrigated farming, so MEPCO processes far more agricultural tube-well connections than most other DISCOs in the country.

MEPCO also runs a CNIC data-collection drive tying every connection to the account holder's national ID. It's meant to stop unauthorized ownership transfers and keep records aligned with NADRA — worth doing even on an old connection that's never had it updated.

Rooftop solar panels connected to the MEPCO grid via net metering
Solar & net metering

Net Metering for Solar Consumers

Consumers with rooftop solar can apply for net metering under NEPRA's regulations — any surplus power your panels generate gets exported to the grid and credited against future bills.

The application goes through your local MEPCO Sub-Division office: submit your CNIC, latest bill, and meter photographs in writing. MEPCO staff inspect the setup and issue a demand notice before the installation gets final approval.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything South Punjab consumers actually ask about MEPCO bills.

Enter your 14-digit reference number or 10-digit consumer number in the checker above. Your MEPCO online bill loads in seconds — no login, no registration.

MEPCO MIS (Management Information System) handles meter readings, bill generation, and complaint tracking. It runs on infrastructure managed by PITC, which is why you'll occasionally see a MEPCO bill checker branded under the PITC name — it's the same underlying data.

Yes. The reference number alone is enough — it's the 14-digit code printed in bold at the top-left of every past bill. You don't need both numbers.

The reference number is 14 digits and sits at the top of your bill in bold. The consumer number is 10 digits and appears just below your name and address. Either one pulls up the same MEPCO bill.

Run the checker above with your reference or consumer number, then tap Download PDF once the bill loads. Banks accept this duplicate for payment the same as the original paper copy.

Compare this month's units against last month's. A sudden jump often means a misread meter or a tariff slab change. If the numbers don't add up, call 118 or file a complaint at mepco.com.pk.

MEPCO's 13 districts span all of South Punjab: Multan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Rajanpur, Lodhran, Vehari, Khanewal, Pakpattan, Sahiwal, and Bahawalnagar.

Bills are due 30 days after the issue date. Miss it, and a 10% late surcharge is added automatically the next day — no grace period after that.

For most consumers, yes. WAPDA used to handle all of Pakistan's power distribution before it was split into regional companies like MEPCO, LESCO, and GEPCO. People in South Punjab often still say 'WAPDA bill' out of habit, but if your area falls under MEPCO's 13 districts, it's a MEPCO bill you're checking.

You can estimate your bill by multiplying your units consumed by your tariff slab rate, then adding GST (17%), electricity duty (1.5%), and the TV fee. It won't be exact — fuel price adjustment changes monthly — but it gets you close.

Enter your reference or consumer number in the checker above. Along with the current bill, you'll see recent billing history so you can track your consumption pattern month to month.

JazzCash, EasyPaisa, mobile banking apps, and most bank websites all accept MEPCO payments — just enter your reference number when prompted for the biller account. You'll get an SMS receipt within minutes.

Yes, 'Mapco' is just a common misspelling of MEPCO (Multan Electric Power Company). The bill checker above works the same way regardless of which spelling brought you here.

Yes — the process is identical across all 13 districts. Whether you're checking a MEPCO bill in Multan city or a rural feeder in Rajanpur, the same reference number lookup applies.

Not directly — you'll need either the reference or consumer number for a lookup, since amounts alone can't identify a unique connection. If both numbers are lost, call 118 with your name and address and MEPCO staff can retrieve them.

Yes. Once your bill loads on the checker above, the Download PDF button gives you a bank-ready copy — the same one accepted at payment counters.

Completely. No account, no charges, no hidden subscription — just enter your number and check.

It follows MEPCO's own monthly billing cycle. Every check is a live lookup against current data, not a cached snapshot from last week.

Reference number vs consumer number — which one do you need?

Reference No.10 digitsRECOMMENDED

14 digits, printed top-left in bold on every MEPCO bill. This is the one most people use for a quick MEPCO bill check.

Consumer No.14 digits

10 digits, listed just under your name and address on the bill. Works exactly the same as the reference number for lookups.

💡 Lost both numbers? Call the MEPCO helpline 118 with your account holder name and address.

MEPCO bill due dates & late payment charges

You get 30 days from the issue date before a 10% surcharge lands. On a Rs. 7,000 bill, that's Rs. 700 you didn't need to pay.

Settle it through JazzCash, EasyPaisa, any bank branch, or online banking — all you need is the consumer or reference number, no separate registration.
