What to Do If Your IESCO Bill Is Overcharged

ApnaBill Editorial·4 min read·Updated 2026-07-14

A bill that's noticeably higher than usual isn't automatically wrong — but it's always worth thirty seconds of checking before you assume it is, and worth a formal complaint if the check doesn't add up.

First, rule out the normal explanations

  • Seasonal usage — air conditioning or heating months routinely double consumption compared to spring/autumn.
  • A slab jump — Pakistan's domestic tariff is tiered, so crossing into a higher slab raises the rate on the units above that line, not just the units in it.
  • A missed reading last month — if last month's bill was estimated rather than read, this month's can look artificially high to correct for it.

Then check the actual meter

Compare the reading printed on your bill to the number currently showing on your meter. If they're close, the bill reflects real usage and the fix is understanding why usage rose, not disputing the bill. If they're far apart, that's a genuine reading or meter error worth escalating.

How to file a complaint

  • Call the IESCO helpline on 118 — available 24/7 — with your reference number and the meter reading you observed.
  • File online through iesco.com.pk if you'd rather have a written record.
  • Ask for a re-reading, not just a discount — a corrected reading fixes the account going forward, not just this one bill.
💡

Keep a photo of your physical meter reading with a timestamp. It's the single most useful piece of evidence in a billing dispute.
